The Amber Project

The project applied the ANSA Distributed Processing Environment technology to the area of distributed multi-media. This project was undertaken to provide feedback on the the platform and to focus development in a particular direction: towards support for real-time multi-media streams.

The MBone was chosen since it provides scalable many-to-many audio and video conferencing over existing wide area networks and because its adaptive approach contrasts with constant bit rate solutions such as are typically deployed in ATM networks.

The project has resulted in a demonstrator, integrating the ANSA distributed multi-media environment with the Vic MBone video tool.
